This is a real top quality baroque Sample Set. Because of the enormous reverberation of the St. Michaelskerk I was curious if that was possible. With this organ is shown that a large reverb is not an insurmountable problem for Hauptwerk. Also with fast pieces are the separate notes good audible. Because of the large reverb this is not an ideal study organ, but for a moderate player (as I) pleasant because a lot play-troubles remains hidden.
This organ excels in his warm flutes, but have also nice full principals and (as much as 12) stately rasping baroque reeds. It spends some time to know the extensive possibilities of this entire big organ (64 stops). With this organ, you must register cautious and use not too much stops. May be only my taste, but I don't like a tutti on this sample set. But a mild principal plenum with the mixtuur is very nice.
Each manual have its own characteristics, on the recording you can easy hear that the Rugwerk (and Bovenpositief) sounds very direct and pure, the Hoofdwerk and Borstwerk sounds more indirect with more reverb. I prefer the Rugwerk (with nice Prestant and Roerfluit) and the Bovenpositief.
On the well-organized stops screen are the names of the stops good readable.
This Sample Set has also a handy voicing page (also available with Hauptwerk Basic Edition) to adjust the volume of one or more stops. There is also a free extended version available in which the compass of the manual is increased to 54 (original 49) notes and the pedal to 30 (original 27) notes.
New for the sample sets of Sonus Paradisi is that the wind model is made visual, furthermore the wind pressure can be regulated with adjustments of the valves. This nice toy can only be used with Hauptwerk Advanced and outside the U.S. (because of a patent).
The absence of noise (also in reverb tail) is one of the characteristics of Sonus Paradisi. It's not needed, as by many other sets, to put on the organ motor to avoid that the noise is annoying.
The requirements for memory (RAM) and polyphony (processor capacity) are substantial. However, in my opinion, this Sample Set is also good usable when you (I too) have a computer with 4 GB memory. With this type of organ each manual can be used independently, through that it is good possible to configure multiple organs of 2 manuals + pedal (see Hint for Zwolle or other large sets or send me a mail).
For this organ is also a Dry (without reverb and much lower requirements) version and a Surround (4 channels for large spacial effect, nearly double requirements) version available. With about EURO 8,- per stop, this sample set is relatively not expensive and you have much value for money. Absolute recommended.
